Mac OS X Mountain Lion is a 64-bit operating system which means that it can only boot in 64-bit mode. 32-bit applications will work but loading a 32-bit compiled driver/module/kext is not possible for Mountain Lion. Therefore applications that need their own 32bit-only modules (kexts) may partially or totally fail.
